Magnesium Complex
Multi-System Support
A 500mg magnesium formula across five chelated forms – Glycinate (sleep and calm), Malate (cellular energy), Citrate (regularity), Oxide (mineral content), Hydroxide as Aquamin™ (faster GI transit). Third-party tested. Built for users wanting the magnesium spectrum (sleep + energy + regularity + cellular function) covered in one daily capsule rather than stacking single-form bottles – different forms reach different tissues and produce different downstream effects. Not for stacking with Neuro Ignite – the combined 880mg magnesium goes well over the 350mg/day supplemental ceiling (= 2.5× UL) and produces GI tolerance issues (loose stools, cramping) before any additional clinical benefit. Pairs cleanly with K2/D3 (Mg is the cofactor for D3 activation to calcitriol).
What each form does, by mechanism. Magnesium Glycinate is bound to the amino acid glycine; glycine itself acts on GABA receptors, which is why glycinate is the calming form preferred for sleep and stress applications. It's also the gentlest on the GI tract. Magnesium Malate is bound to malic acid, which feeds directly into the Krebs cycle (the cellular ATP production pathway) – the energy-side form, often used in chronic-fatigue research. Magnesium Citrate is well-absorbed with a mild laxative effect, useful for both bowel regularity and overall magnesium repletion. Magnesium Oxide has lower absorption per milligram but the highest elemental magnesium content – it contributes baseline mineral content at low cost. Magnesium Hydroxide (sourced as Aquamin™ marine multi-mineral) is the fastest GI mover and contributes to the laxative profile when needed.
Why magnesium status matters for D3 supplementation? Magnesium is a cofactor for the enzyme that converts vitamin D to its active form (calcitriol). D3 supplementation without adequate magnesium status doesn't form a complete system – the absorption signal (D3) and the substrate cofactor (magnesium) need to land together. K2/D3 pairs with Magnesium Complex specifically for this reason. If you're taking D3 standalone and not seeing expected 25-OH-D level increases, the magnesium-cofactor side is often the missing link.
Neuro Ignite carries 380mg magnesium across three chelated forms (DiMagnesium malate + bisglycinate + MagnaPower® magnesium-creatine chelate). Combined with this formula's 500mg, total daily magnesium reaches 880mg – well above the 350mg/day supplemental ceiling for magnesium (= 2.5× UL). The combination produces a GI tolerance threshold (loose stools, cramping) before any additional clinical benefit, and the two products are functionally redundant – Neuro Ignite's three chelated forms cover the same magnesium territory. Pick one magnesium intervention at a time.Dose calibration – GI titration guidance. Start with one capsule daily, ideally with food. If you experience loose stools, drop to a half-dose or alternate days – that's the citrate/hydroxide/oxide fraction working harder than your GI can handle. If no GI effect, you tolerate the full dose well. The body absorbs magnesium efficiently from food but inefficiently from supplements at large single doses – splitting often delivers more total magnesium than a single bigger dose. Other cross-stack pairings: 5-HTP and Mood (Mg is the cofactor for the AAAD decarboxylase enzyme that converts 5-HTP to serotonin); B Complex Plus (B6 + Mg are paired cofactors for the serotonergic pathway).
